Charles has been a hard person to piece together. Here it is; he was born in IA where he grew up and joined the Union army at the age of about 17 on Sep 1861. He was discharged on Aug of 1865 after being shot in action. He then went back home where he married a young lady named Luzetta. She is a part of a very well known family dating all the way back to the founders of Maryland. They were married in possibly Putnam Co, MO just south of the IA boarder. They had four children (two died as infants) then moved to Kansas, possibly for a job. There they had at least three more children, then moved to Bonville, MO, in Pulaski County. He purchased some land from the United States which I have a copy of the document signed by President Theodore Roosevelt. We found both Charles and Luzetta in a 1910 census still in Pulaski County. They were 67 and 64 years old. Charles was accidently shot in the left hand during Cival War on July 18th 1864 in Marietta Georgia.

Until quite recently the marriage of John Peckham and Mary Clarke (sister of Doctor John Clarke), was a matter of supposition supported b y purely circumstantial evidence. The late researches of Mr. Byron J. Peckham in the early records of Bristol County, Massachusetts, at Taunton, have settled by absolute record evidence the question of this marriage.
Concerning Mary Clarke, John Peckham's first wife, the line of whose descent has been fully established, a Bible which belonged to her brother, Doctor John Clarke, which contains several generations preceding and following their advent in America, is still in existence, in the possession of Professor Doctor John C. C. Clarke of Upper Alton, Ill.

Mary Clarke died before 1648. Children were:
i. John Peckham was born about 1645 in Newport, Newport, R I . He died about 1712.
ii. William Peckham.
iii. Mary Peckham.
iv. Thomas Peckham.

John married Mary CLARKE, daughter of Thomas CLARKE and Rose KERIDGE, about 1637. Mary was christened 17 Jul 1607 in Westhorpe, Suffolk, England. She died 1648 in Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island.
Mary was christened 26 Jul 1607 in Westhorpe, Suffolk, England.

NEHGR: Mary Clarke, baptized at Westhorpe 26 July 1607 ( 1 7 July 1607, according to a Bible record). Said to have married __ Peckham of Newport, R.I.
MARY4 CLARKE (Thomas3, John2, John1). She was baptized 2 6 J uly 1607 in Westhorpe, Suffolk, England. She died about 1647 in Newport, Newport, Rhode Island. Residence: Newport, Rhode Island.

Mary Clarke probably came to the Colonies at the same time as her brothers, Thomas, John and Joseph, and probably married John Peckham after arriving in Rhode Island as she was apparently granted land by the town of Newport, possibly before her marriage. Mary Clark of Newport had her land i n Newport recorded immediately after that of John Peckham , sometime between March 1641 and 16 March 1642. Her land s consisted of 40 acres "lying upon the millbrook alias ham brook." Peckham's land also lay near the Hambrook mill. I t seems unlikely that the town would grant both individual s land if they were already married. Two deeds, one from Joshua Coggeshall to Walter Cunigrave dated 30 May 1651, an d one from Walter Cunigrave to John Green dated 6 June 165 1 , describe lands in Newport adjoining "land granted by the Town of Newport unto Mary Clarke now deceased some time t he wife of John Peckham," the first of which deeds was witnessed by John and Elizabeth Clarke, probably the brother o f Mary Clarke and his wife.
