John was married three times, all three wifes passed away at a very young age. The first wife name unknown yet had one child named Sallie. This wife died of Typhoid Fever. The next wife is also unknown name yet, died of Tuberculosis. Then he married Leona Barton, they had four children in GA. When the youngest (Mae) was only 5 years old, Leona died of cancer. Curtis worked on a farm, Willie (Sis) & Lucille went to school, and Mae lived with "Miss Essie Fussell" (a family friend) until she was old enough to go to school with her sisters. The school was called Vashti Industrial School, part of the Methodist Church. Sis and Lucille stayed in GA, Mae went to TX. The plan was for Sis to go to school while Curtis helped at home. When Sis was finished Curtis was going to go to school. This never happened and Curtis never finish school, yet he was very talented in anything he did.
